Welcome to the
Trauma-informed Design Society Academy!

We cultivate rewarding professional development and credentialing opportunities for Trauma-informed Design (TiD) practitioners.

TiD is about integrating the principles of trauma-informed care, as originally established by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and continually evolving, into design. The goal is to create physical spaces that promote safety, resilience, and healing.

All our course offerings are based on these principles and the evolving science that informs this area of practice.

TiD Credentialing provides you the skills to:

Create spaces that that promote safety, resilience, and healing
Protect against unintentional harm in your practice

And connects you with others doing this work!

We offer the only TiD credentialing path

Trauma-informed Design is a practice.  As with all practices, TiD requires practitioners to understand the concepts and theories relating to it, and to apply them to projects with fidelity.

The practice of TiD is also hard.  Practitioners enter this line of work because they want to make a positive difference in the lives of others. In doing so, they open themselves up to the stories of people who have experienced all sorts of hurt, violence, and harm. It is necessary to do this work well—but it also takes a toll.  Credentialling offers the opportunity to build a community of support with other practitioners who understand.

Courses in Every Practice Area of TiD

We offer the widest variety of courses in TiD, ensuring content for practitioners of every skill level and area of practice.  Whether you want to specialize in a particular type of design or human condition or are looking to develop a more generalized expertise, we are sure to have something that suits your needs.

Some words from our clients

The instructors seemed very committed to our growth, jumping into every single discussion post each week with extra thoughts and ideas.  It made the whole learning experience feel more interactive and meaningful.

The class taught me how to apply the principles of Trauma-Informed Care to design spaces that prioritize stress reduction and overall well-being.  It shifted my perspective, helping me see how thoughtful design can create environments that promote healing and provide a sense of security for those who need it most.

Both instructors are great, encouraging, while also providing constructive feedback.  Much appreciated.  They are also really good at diplomatically responding in the discussions when student comments or understanding need correction.  It was nice to get real feedback.
